Overview

BOOST is helping one of our teeming partners hire a FOIA/Privacy professional to join their team and support a federal agency program facing a significant backlog in outstanding FOIA requests.  The agency you will be supporting provides public-facing services through grants and direct aid that often prompt FOIA requests. The is a full time position with a hybrid work schedule out of Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • Provide responses to FOIA and Privacy Act requests;
  • Support FOIA related data management, including data entry, workload tracking, and backlog analysis.
  • Manage the receipt, distribution, and tracking of incoming FOIA request.
  • Provide written/oral responses to inquiries regarding FOIA from other public sector stakeholders.
  • Draft correspondence in support of FOIA/Privacy Act actions into to the agency-specific tool for workflow management and tracking.
  • Review all information generated in response to FOIA requests/appeals and redact any information that is exempted under the FOIA or must be withheld in accordance with the Privacy Act
  • Ensure all final responses received for FOIA requests are entered into the relevant tracking system.
  • Support program office compliance with agency FOIA policies and processes.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

  • BA/BS degree preferred; minimum 4 years relevant experience required 
  • Expertise in FOIA processing, including responding to appeals
  • Experience using automated tools, such as MS Office and FOIAXpress
  • Demonstrated ability to remain current with evolving policies, guidance, standards, and trends for FOIA and the Privacy Act

  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to interact independently with government clients and stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Authorization Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule on-site in Washington, DC

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous Federal consulting experience
  • Process improvement experience that can help identify possible improvements in FOIA/Privacy Act transaction process to help reduce backlogs
  • Advanced degree
